Fall

Oh November

November is almost over and what a month it has been…

The month began with my first extended break since the world shut down because of Covid. If you didn’t know I have worked continually through it all. It is a blessing to have a job, though it has gotten a little tiring and many times I have wondered if stepping back would have made me focus on art and music more. So it goes.

I’m still creating frequently. Need to work my focus on getting more live performances. That’s where I thrive.

Ashley Klump and I went back to the Virginia at the beginning of November. We saw my grandparents on my mom’s side, my mom and her husband Sean, Uncle Randy and Angie, Aunt Maggie, Aunt Lonnie and Bryan, my brother Jason and his wife Savannah, and their little one Audrey. Oh and Pat, mom’s friend and neighbor-she’s essentially family in my opinion. That’s a lot of freakin family in about four days.

Ashley and I also got engaged! That’s something I never really thought would happen, but this little fairy tale is far from finished. Seems this fox met his match. A wild and eccentric, yet meek and mild, beautiful woman. Thank you Ashely.

Back into the coffeehouse and back to Portland…

I’ve been reading “Be Here Now / Be Nowhere” by Raam Dass, Mahabharata.

Creating new tracks with the synth and a newly acquired theremin that was a birthday gift from my friend Jenny Duchene. The theremin is a little more challenging to record with as of now. I’ll post new tracks soon.

Thanksgiving was beautiful and yummy. Ashley and I had our friends Alan and Aimee over.

Oh there was a lunar eclipse this month. Didn’t see it / Definitely felt it.

Lots of rain in the PNW. It’s so nice to have it back. Listening to crows. The hummingbirds are everywhere again. I saw three on my “morning” coffee walk today.

Also the night after Ashley and I got back from Virginia-we saw what was only my second owl since living out west fly over and sit on the power line above us and Bonnie and I saw went walking one night and three raccoons came out to say hello to us.

Been tuning into Russell Brand’s YouTube channel a lot more frequently. His perspective and wisdom on the issues he covers is inspiring to me. There’s a lot of work to do still my fellow earthlings.

Hmmm…. I am sure there are many things I am leaving out. There’s another tab open with other projects to finish.

Idaho / Wyoming

Good Morning!

From the Teton Valley of Idaho to Jackson Hole, Wyoming that is where I have been for the last few days. It is absolutely breathtaking. Literally, as we drive over some of these mountain ranges I have lovingly reminded Ashley Klump to breathe.

It’s unlike anything I have ever seen before. Mountains beyond mountains. It’s September and there is snow on the distant mountains. We drove through a pass yesterday and there was snow on the ground beside us.

We went to pick up Ashley’s sister, her husband, and little one (less than 2 years old), from an airport that lands in the Teton National Park.

When I walk outside all I hear is the wind blowing through the trees and my own breath most the time.

I saw a white buffalo, only from the car, driving by, not close enough to take a picture, not close enough to photograph or say hello/hi.

I’m still hoping to cross paths with a red fox. They’re out here. I’ve read it to be so. The elevations out here are unlike anything I have experienced to date.

Lots of deer. Lots!

The sun is out this morning for the first time since we arrived.

Ashley’s parents are genuine, straight forward, good hearted people. Felicity, her little niece of not even two years of age is adorable. We hit it off rather quickly. I like the little ones and the way they see the world. It’s easier for me to relate. It’s simple and unfiltered.

Ashley’s parents have built quite the getaway home up here in the middle of nowhere almost.

The nearest towns, itty bitty towns, are a good 30, 35 minute drive. Victor and Driggs.

I feel blessed to get out of the city. I love Oregon, but it’s nice to get out and explore.

Tomorrow is the first day of Fall and we plan to visit Yellowstone National Park, another first for myself.

Tuesday we plan to explore Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Wednesday it’s on the road back to Oregon again.

I am grateful and blessed for this experience.

Happy October

Here's a toast to my favorite month of the year.

I know climate change has made the Pacific Northwest dryer, but here's to hoping for a misty, grey October 20 (my bday) (also Snoop and Tom Petty's).

I'm working on some really exciting endeavors I hope to share real soonly.

The thing with magic is you can't give away all your secrets.

Anyway.. Pick up some yellow leaves and acorns. Eat some candy corn and pumpkin loaf.

Here's to October. The most wonderful time of the year!

be free!

Saturday

Saturday evening I had the pleasure of going to hang out at my friends Kristen and Andy's house. This is the view from their front patio. Look at those colors. Fall is coming!

I only wish I could have been able to capture the stars that lit up the sky that night. Enough to make you feel really tiny, really quick like. Magical stuff.

Thank you Kristen and Andy for sharing your castle with Sabrina and I for a few moments!

Summertime

Summertime is busy. You go go go. The adventures are external and it seems it's impossible to convey all the lessons you learn.

I've really lacked in wordy blog posts but Fall is coming. Fall is coming fast.

Expect lots of pictures of Fall foliage and lots more of my head thoughts. So what's going on in my head and stuff you ask?

I've been working on characters for a new book. When I wrote lyrics for Nausicaa I'd add words on top of music my bandmates I wrote.

I'm taking the same approach to the new book. I'm getting lost in the drawing and then see what stories the characters have to tell me.

Also I got a new job! Oh yeah! As of this Thursday I begin working at Vivace on NW 23rd and Pettygrove making coffee and crepes! Goodbye Starbucks! You won't be missed!

Nextly... I've begun a new music project with my friends Tim Craft and Kieran Arnold. Some kind of heavy bluesy mess is sure to ensue. It's been too long since I've done some kind of music and I'm totally stoked to see what happens.

My friend Elena Lopez-Trigo came out from Miami and visited this Summer. I'm very grateful for that. Nothing like connecting with an old friend and feeling like you never missed a beat.

Expect more updates and rambles other than just Sleepwalking Moments. Though I do enjoy those posts. It's a very meditative ritual where I rid myself of expectation and stick to very basic shapes and line segments and see what happens.

It reminds me to breathe and think over what is happening in my life. The beauty in Sleepwalking Moments is what I do for therapy is an open interpretation comic for you.

I'm finally making more money so expect new Sleepwalking Merch sometime sooon...ish...

I love my friends. I adore my girlfriend.

It seems that sometimes I have to wait a long time for good stuff to happen and sometimes it all happens at once and it's hard to convey my appreciation and I get stuck in your head trying to make sense of it all.

I'm in a good place even if it's just for a minute; momentary bliss seems way better than conflict.

I leave you now interweb friends.

Trust magic. Be free. Sleepwalk with me.
