david bowie

david bowie, acorn season, the interwebs (and other words)

hello fellow earthlings.

about 2 weeks ago i made a post on my intention to post more words on this blog and that "2016 is going to be an interesting year, i can feel it."

never in my mind did i think that David Bowie would choose that moment to go home amongst the stars where he came from.

i have not had a working cell phone for just about 2 weeks now.

the truth is i don't know exactly when my phone quit working.

it's been less than 2 weeks because my last post on here on the 6th i had a phone.

well i still have a phone. it just won't hold a charge. a very first world dilemma.

that being said.

there was a small window when my laptop was no longer held a charge either.

in that moment of time.

i was singing "rock n roll suicide" with my friend/flatmate/bandmate, Tim… Tim Craft.

it was his 33rd Birthday. A "merlin birthday" someone pointed out.

i don't know exactly what that means. it seemed more intriguing than the guys who said it was Tim's "jesus year". what does that mean? he's doomed to die? that ain't cool. words words words.

we were singing Bowie as we have been for a moment. we have a show in two weeks. (more on that sonly). it was a song i mentioned possibly covering a while ago. I found out the next morning Bowie passed via word of mouth by Tim.

I didn't have interwebs to reach out. I don't have a phone to reach out to those who were just as upset as me. I spent that afternoon watching his last videos and listening to Blackstar via youtube on AppleTV.

It's a beautiful, dark masterpiece.

here's to hoping to inherit some of the magic stardust left behind by one of the greatest entertainers, in my opinion. if you haven't listened to the last album. i highly recommend it.

you can stream the whole album here:

as i mentioned before i haven't had a phone. it's been nice to recalibrate.

i do miss the ritual of posting my sleepwalking moments. i'll pick that up soonly.

i've drawn a lot. given a lot away, too.

there's a lot more in those drawings than this blog can say at the moment.

hope to get a new phone soon.

this blog is getting really lengthy, really fast. stay with me.

acorn season!

i play my first public rock n roll show since moving out West on February 1st.

That is 2 weeks from yesterday. I first learned of this opportunity about 2 weeks ago.

My friend Tim Craft and I wrote a couple songs which i will post below.

We'll be playing those songs and a few more along with our friend Joel who will be keeping beats.

I hope you can join us.

If not give the songs a listen, please.

I've been wanting to sing and dance to some songs for a while now.

The first song, "bucket" was written of August 23rd that was the first day of the fall.

it's a bit different than any music of done prior and excited to see what happens with this journey.

i gotta quit rambling for now.

be free.

David Bowie - Valentine's Day

Sometimes I don't listen to music or watch music videos when they are first released because I am into another type of music at the time and don't feel I'm able to focus on the music whole heartedly and/or if I feel there is a lot of hype around it I wait it out for months sometimes even years to see how I really feel about it.

Such was the case for David Bowie's most recent single; Valentine's Day. I watched the first 3 singles as soon as they came out from this album but felt like I needed to wait to watch this one so I could appreciate it more.

But holy wowzers!  This is the best LOOKING video from this album so far, and that's not undermining the others at all. But the colors and angles and crispness of this is absolutely wonderful.

Mister Bowie; you're looking just as powerful and mysterious as always!

And that guitar... So good!

This is definitely one of my favorite Bowie albums; very present but uniquely Bowie. I don't think it's caught on like it needs to yet. It kind of jumped out and slid into the shadows. I still hope Bowie does at least one live appearance in support of this album.

New David Bowie Music Video

I'm not going to say I fully understand the video, but I definitely have an idea. I might dive into that thought process at a later time. As for now enjoy the third and title track "The Next Day" by David Bowie. Also starring Gary Oldman and other famous people I don't recognize.

Mostly I just hope that sick feeling in my stomach that says "this is Bowie's official goodbye" is wrong.

Hello Dallas, Texas!

Woke up at 4:40am. Been riding a plane since 6:30am.  Slept until about 10:30am at which time i exited the plane briefly to  buy a coffee and muffin.

After that I started listening to music (mostly Bon Iver and David Bowie) and reading "The Story of Stuff".

I bought the book in January, but forsook it to read other books for a while.

It's a great book. Heavy yet spoken in common people language; which I find essential when trying to convince people to change their habits and take care of our planet. Anyway, that's another subject for another time.

Numbers.

3 more days of work before I leave to meet Adam in Texas.

Then I get 8 days off of work.

Hopefully I hear back from the guy about potential apartment guy before I leave for Texas. At which time we will owe 400, 900, or 1800 for apartment a deposit.

Hopefully only 400 because I had $300 in my account on Friday, but now I'm a lot closer to $200.

I get paid on Friday, April 26th, but I'll be out of town by that time.

My paycheck should be at least $500.

I saw 11 people under 1 portion of 1 bridge on my way into work this morning.

Cody says I can take my hair product in my carry on bag if it's under 4 ounces.

I thought it was 3 ounces, but he's probably right because he retains information better than myself.

My americano had 3 shots of espresso.

I need to do 2 loads of laundry.

I still need to shower and wash my hair before my trip, but I don't remember when I showered last. At least 7 days now, right? I really don't know. Oh well.

Whilst writing these words I listened to David Bowie sing "Five Years".

The End.
