Music Thoughts on New Vampire Weekend

Listened to the new album about 2 times now, but I must say I'm very impressed.

It has the "fa la la la la la" of the last albums with more "grown up/intimate" parts to make it one solid albums.

It has a cool Elvis/Flaming Lips/Modest Mouse vibe to it. Mix that with all the amazingness that you know and love about Vampire Weekend and you have the new album.

Well to me.. and that's a very abbreviated description. Mostly because my attention won't allow me to type much longer than that right now. But I know if I don't type this now I will forget to do so later.

Espresso And Morning Words

Since moving to Portland I have increased my espresso intake 100 fold. I have also come to the conclusion I do not like Starbucks espresso at all.

I have to add mad amounts of cinnamon and half & half to give an appealing taste; where most local shops I can drink my americano as is.

I can't wait for people to hear the music works. It's matured a lot since the Nausicaa days, but still does what Nausicaa does best.

Cody has been writing some insanely amazing riffs and Adam's drumming is more tamed than ever before and as you probably know; the only things scarier than an angry bear is an angry bear held in a cage.

All and all the music is giving me all the feels, and I can't wait to share it with everyone.  Also I plan to post a snapshot of my book tonight after work. So be on the lookout for that.

MJ Monday And Other Head Blurbs

I started MJ Monday off watching "This Is It" for the second night in a row; which is good because the most of my day is making coffee to a generic playlist.

I have many words on the awesomeness of Michael Jackson, but I am not awake enough to sing any such praises at this moment.

Also, I'm ready to get into the music again. Get lost in it. Jamming again on Thursday Night.

Everything MJ did was so in sync with the music. The way he harmonized so well, the rhythm of his dance looked effortless and flawless, and damn his band in the "This Is It" film. Daaaammnnnn that guitar!

Also my book is almost ready to send to the printing stage.

I need to read more. I really do.

OOOooooh look I found the whole film on Youtube!

It's probably on Netflix, too.

I think you should watch it.

13 Minutes Left Of Morning Thoughts!

  • I didn't get out of bed until after 11.
  • It felt good to hold a microphone again. I know what I need to do now.
  • My phone is freaking out. It has signal almost nowhere. Time to go see the phone people.
  • I don't want to pay for a new phone. That sounds horrible.
  • Mostly because I don't have that kind of money.
  • I really need coffee.
  • Need to run by the bank.
  • Have you watched my new youtube video?
  • To Be Continued after consuming coffee

I Have A Date Tonight!

I have a date tonight with a long, lost lover: music.

I'm playing music with the only two people who fully understand my heart and soul when it comes to music: Adam Duckworth and Cody Pulliam.

It'll be the first time we've plugged up and played loudly since Nausicaa came to an end in December 2011. I'm so ready to hold that mic in my hand again and see what kind of magic happens.

I sold my soul to rock n' roll, and I have so longed for what is soon to happen. There's a special kind of madness that comes with heavy rock n' roll. I can't explain it, but I know it owns my soul.

New David Bowie Music Video

I'm not going to say I fully understand the video, but I definitely have an idea. I might dive into that thought process at a later time. As for now enjoy the third and title track "The Next Day" by David Bowie. Also starring Gary Oldman and other famous people I don't recognize.

Mostly I just hope that sick feeling in my stomach that says "this is Bowie's official goodbye" is wrong.

Shows In Portland, Oregon!

Holy Shizzzzzzzaaaa there is too much music. My brain and wallet just can't keep up. I need an "in" to all this stuff! Father John Misty, The National, Jim James, and oh so many more!! I don't have time to type it all out right now; gotta make that coffee!

AAAHHH!!! SHIT!!! SOMEONE HELP ME!!!

Ever Forget How Much You Enjoy A Band?

Then listen to them again and wonder why you ever stopped listening to them?

Maybe it's just because you found other music that peaked your interest. It happens. You fall in love with a band, but no matter what you stop listening to certain bands for a while, but there's always a  handful of bands you fall in love with over and over again.

You scan through your Itunes for something to "new" to listen to, and never notice the band you really want to hear is there all along.

What I'm trying to say is I just remembered how awesome Modest Mouse is and I can't wait for them to put out their new album. It's been way too long and though their sound has evolved and transformed over the years I can honestly say I have enjoyed album immensely.

My Song of the Day

My Chemical Romance-Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)

(Na Na Na...)

Drugs, gimme drugs, gimme drugs
I don't need it, but I'll sell what you got
Take the cash and I'll keep it
Eight legs to the wall
Hit the gas, kill them all
And we crawl, and we crawl, and we crawl
You be my detonator

Love, gimme love, gimme love
I don't need it, but I'll take what I want from your heart
And I'll keep it in a bag, in a box
Put an X on the floor
Gimme more, gimme more, gimme more
Shut up and sing it with me

(Na Na Na...)

From mall security
To every enemy
We're on your property
Standing in V formation

(Na Na Na...)

Let's blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

(More! Gimme more! Gimme more!)

Oh, let me tell you 'bout the sad man
Shut up and let me see your jazz hands
Remember when you were a madman
Thought you was Batman
And hit the party with a gas can
Kiss me you animal

(Na Na Na...)

You run the company
Fuck like a Kennedy
I think we'd rather be
Burning your information

Let's blow an artery
Eat plastic surgery
Keep your apology
Give us more detonation

And right here
Right now
All the way in Battery City
Little children
Raise their open filthy palms
Like tiny daggers up to heaven
And all the juvee halls
And Ritalin rats
Ask the angels made from neon
And fucking garbage
Scream out "What will save us?"
And the sky opened up

Everybody wants to change the world
Everybody wants to change the world
But no one,
No one wants to die
Wanna try, wanna try, wanna try
Wanna try, wanna try, oh
I'll be your detonator

(Na Na Na...)

Make no apology
It's death or victory
On my authority
Crash and burn
Young and loaded

Drop like a bulletshell
Dress like a sleeper cell
I'd rather go to hell
Than be in purgatory
Cut my hair
Gag and bore me
Pull this pin

Let this world explode

New Modest Mouse Song!

Firstly, this is pretty damn good sounding for a live recording.

Secondly, the song is a little grunge, punk, and psychedelic all wrapped up in one big burrito.  I can only say by the sound of the recording I am intrigued and can't wait to hear a better recording, but I like the mellow vibe.

Thirdly, Modest Mouse can we please hear a new album already? It's been 6 years! I know it'lll be worth the wait. Fairly certain of that no matter what the sound, but David Bowie, Justin Timberlake, and even Fall Out Boy have released new music in recent months.

Lastly, I'm just ranting because I'm excited. Enjoy!

P.S. Isaac Brock sounds angry again! :D
