Death Cab For Cutie

I don't know that I'll ever be able to listen and enjoy Death Cab For Cutie. I keep trying and it never interests me.

I like Ben Gibbard in The Postal Service and actually really enjoyed a few of Death Cab's singles, but every time I sit down to try and take on an album I turn it before the first track ends.

Maybe I'm just broken. Maybe they were overhyped. Maybe it's just going to take a little more life to pass before I get it.

It's All Crazy. It's all False. It's All A Dream. It's Alright.

Upon the first listen to mewithoutYou's "It's All Crazy. It's all False. It's All A Dream. It's Alright." album in a great while; I must confess appreciating it's tone a lot more so than ever before.

Aaron Weiss is so brilliant. They all are, but Aaron's brain and translation of the arts deserves more gratitude than it receives.

My Song Of The Day

Arcade Fire - Suburban War

Let's go for a drive
And see the town tonight
There's nothing to do but I don't mind when I'm with you

This time's so strange
They built it to change
And while we're sleeping all the streets, they rearrange.

And my old friends, we were so different then
Before your war against the suburbs began
Before it began

And now the music divides
Us into tribes
You grew your hair so I grew mine
You said the past won't rest
Until we jump the fence
And leave it behind

And my old friends, I can remember when
You cut your hair
I never saw you again
Now the cities we live in
Could be distant stars
And I search for you
In every passing car

The night's so warm
Yeah, the night's so warm
I've been living in the shadows of your song
Living in the shadows of your song

In the suburbs I,
I learned to drive
And you told me we would never survive
So grab your mother's keys we leave tonight

But you started a war
That you can't win
They keep erasing all the streets we grew up in

Now the music divides
Us into tribes
You choose your side and I'll choose my side

All my old friends, they don't know me now
Oh-oh
All my old friends, are staring through me now
Oh-oh
All my old friends, they don't know me now
All my old friends, they don't know me now

All my old friends wait

Stuff and Things

Friday:

Woke up and went to the coast to find my wallet. Over a month later still exactly where I stupidly through it; ID, $20, and all the essentials still safely enclosed. Had a few drinks with friends I don't hang out without very often so that was awesome.

Saturday:

Signed up to volunteer at Music Fest Northwest. Volunteer for one show and get free access to all the others. You can't beat that. A lot of good bands playing: Deerhunter, The Head and The Heart, Animal Collective, Washed Out, Horse Feathers, Surfer Blood, and a lot of other bands I've HEARD OF but haven't actually HEARD. What better way to hear them though, eh?

Then I walked around the Alberta Street Fair. There was a ton of awesome art. There was more art at in one place that I wanted than I have seen in one place in a long time.

Even did some more hiking around Forest Park with Tim and Michelle.

Sunday:

I made the coffee for America and have been resting every since. With the exception of washing a few dishes and cooking dinner I haven't left the comfort of my bed. That will continue throughout the night.

I've begun watching the "Through The Wormhole" series. There's a lot of knowledge in those. Sometimes my head just blanks on what all these scientists are telling me but it's a really well informed, awesome series thus far. I'm only on episode two of season 1; there are 4 seasons.

Now more of nothingness and watching the moving pictures.

My Song of The Day

Sunset Rubdown - Up On Your Leopard, Upon the End of Your Ferel Days

You’re the one who ran in the wild ‘cause
You’re the one the wild called
And you’re the one who followed the child
To save the sun from how it falls
You’re the one who had knives
Set aside for the throats of hunters
But they tricked you with a trinket and a name

+ I’m the one who sat at your capture
+ I’m the one who whispered low
That’s the one who followed the child to save the son
And look—it’s starting to snow!

Whoah-oh-oh-ho-oh…

You’re the one who’s riding about on a leopard.
You’re the one who’s throwing the shiv in the air!
You’re the one whose wild hide will weather
And the weathering takes you from leather
Made for princes to lay their princely heads of hair
Upon the end of your feral days
Upon the end of your feral days
Upon the end of your feral days

Oh-oh-oh

You’re the one who ran in the wild a virgin to a name;
You’re the one who lived off a forsaken land.
I’m the one who sat at your capture
And let the snow fall on this whispering rapture
You’re the one who’s kissing your captor’s hands

“Well shit, I know we’re all growing old.
But where there’s a will, there is a way
So way to go.”
Say goodbye to your feral days.
Say goodbye to your feral days.
Say goodbye—bye-bye-bye

‘Cause you’re the one who’s riding around on a leopard; (ba-da-dum)
You’re the one who’s throwing dead birds in the air.
And you’re the one whose wild hide will weather
In the weathering days
To a lover made soft
So princes can lay down their princely white heads! OF HAIR!

Say goodbye…
Say goodbye to your feral days.
Say goodbye—bye-bye-bye.

Your highness is holding your chains.

My Song of The Day

Portugal. The Man - Sleep Forever

As I finally meet my end
I won't be scared, I won't defend
The things I've done
I don't need him like you do
I don't fear him like you do

As the world revolves the sun
I hope the light that I become can
Sleep for once
I will leave it like you do
I won't lead it like you do
I won't leave it like they do
I don't need him like they do

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on their own
'Cause we are the colors
Of all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets
Take to the streets

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Lead or follow

As my world it hides behind
The words only your wars define
They read a lot like news
But I fear it more than you
I fear it more than you

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like old lovers
Who never leave home
We'll forget the city
And forget the roads
'Cause we are all rebels
Never do what we're told
We may not grow money
But man we grow old
Man we grow old

I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow

Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on our own
'Cause we are the colors
In all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets

'Cause we are all children
Yeah, we are all man
It may not be much
But we do what we can
Don't need no preacher
To make us believe
That everything's perfectly
Fucked up like me

Imagine Dragons

Well I know I'm kind of late on this one. I've been hearing this band's name a while (and though their name was very intriguing) I never took the time to look them up. But hoooolllyyyyy shit these dudes are legit.

They are like M83, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Alt-J, and more I'm sure; all rolled into one giant burrito of awesome!

I'm sure I'm the last one to have listened to them, but if you haven't done so give them a listen. I don't think you'll regret it.

Going To See Father John Misty Tonight!

I keep forgetting the show is tonight, but that doesn't mean I'm not excited!

FJM is single handedly the biggest inspiration in me getting back into the music scene.

Father John Misty has taught me to just be yourself, not worry about grammer, and let the music move you, it's okay to be vain as fuck in terms of your music (you're a fucking artist you're supposed to take pride in your work), and most importantly WHY SO SERIOUSSSSS?

It doesn't matter if you're awkward, vain, shy, angry: if you love music it'll show.

Father John Misty, I cannot wait to see you tonight. Maybe this time I'll get a conversation with this rad as fuck dude.

Music Thoughts on New Vampire Weekend

Listened to the new album about 2 times now, but I must say I'm very impressed.

It has the "fa la la la la la" of the last albums with more "grown up/intimate" parts to make it one solid albums.

It has a cool Elvis/Flaming Lips/Modest Mouse vibe to it. Mix that with all the amazingness that you know and love about Vampire Weekend and you have the new album.

Well to me.. and that's a very abbreviated description. Mostly because my attention won't allow me to type much longer than that right now. But I know if I don't type this now I will forget to do so later.

Ever Forget How Much You Enjoy A Band?

Then listen to them again and wonder why you ever stopped listening to them?

Maybe it's just because you found other music that peaked your interest. It happens. You fall in love with a band, but no matter what you stop listening to certain bands for a while, but there's always a  handful of bands you fall in love with over and over again.

You scan through your Itunes for something to "new" to listen to, and never notice the band you really want to hear is there all along.

What I'm trying to say is I just remembered how awesome Modest Mouse is and I can't wait for them to put out their new album. It's been way too long and though their sound has evolved and transformed over the years I can honestly say I have enjoyed album immensely.
