cracked scapula

one week ago today i cracked my scapula. i was helping a friend who accidentally locked his keys in his apartment. it was a really tiny window and i thought i could slide in really quick and grab them and get out.

i got one leg and two arms in and then i was stuck. in a fleeting moment i saw his bed below and thought i’d just push myself through and the bed would catch my fall. the bed did catch my fall, but in the moment i didn’t realize how high the fall was.

so i have been out of working the coffeehouse since and go back this saturday. it’s been really challenging being still and not being able to have my arm’s full rotation. i know it’ll take time and much exercise to get my arm to fully extend as it once did.

i am not afraid. it’s pretty freaky, but that’s part of the experience. my biggest concern is the extended time away from my day job because there is still rent to pay and other grown up responsibilities.

all that to say if anyone wants/can help by purchasing some of my art to help with rent, etc, it would really mean a lot right now. i accept cash app ( $icallmeabcorduroy ) or the good old fashioned cash if you are live locally.

my instagram page is the most up to date archive i have. all prices are negotiable. if you don’t use instagram you can still scroll through and email me at: ( abcorduroy@gmail.com ) about a piece.

well, that’s that.

until the next moment!

Live Art Jam

upload.jpg

Hello Friends!

This is a semi last minute post, I've been working at the day job more than I normally do this week so my routines are a bit shuffled at the moment.

This Saturday I am participating in a live art jam at PDXchnge on Mississippi Avenue from 1-4pm.

I will be creating art live alongside some other artists I will link to below.

Come check it out, hang out, ask anything you wanna know about the art process.

upload.jpg

I have a huge inventory of pieces that haven't sold yet that will be available at discounted prices.

Help me clean out the inventory to make room for new stuff.

Also for one day only I will be selling my coffee cup art. A lot of people have been asking for them, but they've literally been the cups I drink from.

Saturday I am doing a limited run of 25 coffee cups for $5 each.

upload.jpg

I will also have a limited number of my "character guide" to hand out for those interested.

I hope to see you there.

New Book

Thank you Scot for the new book. Before last night I had only read excerpt from this book on the interweb.

I do confess Tim Burton along' s drawings are a huge inspiration on my own. He and Suess as I mentioned a few blog posts before.

That is all for now. Thanks again Scot.

life lately

looking for a new job. i'd really like to find something more hands on and artsy and not food.

priority is to just to find a job asap and save up and make the greater dreams happen in this moment.

we'll see what happens.

my 30th birthday is tomorrow. no longer a "20 something", still a "millennial".

trying to sell more art. i've went through and archived it all into an album and folders.

found a comfy little hangout to people watch and share art a few blocks from my homebox.

had a few transactions, but lots of human connections which is the greater experiment at play.

the leaves are absolutely gorgeous lately.

happy october everyone.

Liberty

my friend, Cass, was part of a Bernie Sanders themed art show last night.

Below art pics of the prints, contact her on Instagram if you're interested in one.

i contributed some word for the second print. it felt good to write out my feels about the current politics so thoroughly.

I encourage you to read it, if you wonder why I support Bernie Sanders more than any other candidate.

Oregon and Kentucky primaries are tomorrow.

Keep your hopes up, friends.

Bernie Sanders in no way can solve all our crazy problems on his own, but he has the servitude to start trying.

Combine that with people rallying together and we can do whatever we want.

updated interweb store

alfred 19

alfred 19

hi friends.

i wrote a post a moment or so ago about how Tim had helped me fix my laptop and how i was trying to focus on regular posts on this rambling blog.

since then my laptop has crashed again and my main source of interweb is an iPod.

i have a lot i want to ramble about.

i have a short attention span.

i end up drawing it out more often.

well today i sat down and cataloged some of my favorite prints and added them to my site's interweb store

they are a fraction of the prints that i debuted at my first art showing at Vivace last year.

the response from that event was greater than i had imagined it'd be so now i'm officially making these pieces available on the interwebs because everyone should have a friend alfred or two.

i've misplaced my coffee.

i'm going to get off the interweb and go find that.

Confession

Once upon about a month and a half ago I lost my backpack.

My friends told me to stay patient.

That'll it'll show up soon.

It's not the first time I've lost some sort of stuff item.

you know? the physical objects that you place relentless emotional value on

with that in mind i knew it was gone

i didn't want to believe but i knew

there are very few objects i hold as dear as a backpack

this one was waterproof and a rolltop

this one had a notebook of words i've only shown to a few

words that i've continually added to for two years

"follow the yellow leaves, go wherever they roam"

my favorite coffee cup. some palo santo sticks.

a lot of pens. good pens. pens are magic wands.

also a huge chunk of art i've been saving

waiting

to scan?

to make bigger prints?

to make duplicates?

to make more finance?

truth is i don't know

i know i began drawing as a meditation

an escape

to remember a moment

whether consciously or subconsciously

to cope with writer's block

since losing my backpack

i've began writing again

and the art is stacking up again

so what do i do with all of these scribblings when i'm currently drawing multiple of per day

they're my comics, my songs without words,

my story

moment by moment

a magic spell

i give it away

or i sell it

i would rather sell someone a piece of "art" for a flat $20

then keep hoarding it to myself and it possibly getting lost again

it's first come, first serve. hand signed and sent out every thursday.

so if this is kind of thing you're interested in:

  1. find the picture you like at zzzwalking.com/abcorduroy
  2. email me (abcorduroy@gmail.com) the name of the comic (ex: sleepwalking moment sw156)
  3. if it's available i'll paypal you an invoice

if you read this far, thank you for your interest. email me if you have any questions. be free.

Retrograde Grey Daze

The grey is good. It's lingering. I'm grateful.

I organized two notebooks of art today. There's a lot of stuff there. I lost this notebook, last dated entry was March 28th, but my coworker found it on Wednesday. There's a lot of gems I shared as Sleepwalking Moments that I had given up as laterday memories.

I met a guy last night who is interested in making my logo dude into an animation. My friend Zak introduced me to him and with our powers combined I'm excited to see what becomes of that venture.

Also in the last couple weeks I have sold a handful of prints and/or framed pieces from Vivace. To anyone who has bought one, thank you very much. I'm hope you found magic in your purchase.

On that subject, I'm also willing to mail prints out. I have about 13 different designs ready for print. I'm selling 11x17 prints for $25 or $30 if shipping is involved.

If you are interested in one of the following, email me at abcorduroy@gmail.com with your mailing address and which print you'd like and we'll work it out from there.

Because processing orders and going to the post office is a job in itself I have designated Thursday as Post Office Day. So if you're interested in a print, email me by then.

If not you have to wait until next week. Also I'lll post more prints available as time progresses.

I've been attempting to make a gallery page, but I haven't locked in a convenient format yet.

In the mean time, check out these prints and email me if you're interested in a print.

Otherly....

I'm just remembering to feel the breeze, smell the roses (literally), sing more songs, and wander as much as the sun permits me.

I'm very grateful for these mellow grey days. They've been fewer then I'd like in recent months but grateful for the ones that come around. They help my mind rest and my body settle.

Anyway... Be free fellow earthlings,

Thinking Thoughts

i got up and washed some dishes and started 2 loads of laundry. All before a morning coffee mind you.

I got some coffee. I've since began working on my zzzwalking post for the day and rearranged the living room.

I need to go get those clothes out of the dryer actually but in my frenzy of art, cleaning, and reading I started thinking thoughts.

so for sake of rambling...

there is no good and evil only cause and effect in constant rotation.

reality is a relative.

consciousness is a choice.

i'm not sure on all the interworkings of those last 2 sentences, but I don't feel like redacting anything at the moment. Like I said "thinking thoughts".

It's nice to have time to think. That's one reason I wander and draw so much. It gets you out of your head.

In a society like ours where people are constantly on the go we must remember there are bits of "momentary bliss" all around us. We just have to be conscious enough to notice them.

Anyway, those clothes need taken out of the dryer so I'm going to stop typing for now.

Also there was a really good rain yesterday evening/night. thank you magic.

be free fellow earthlings,

Here

I officially sold 4 pieces from my art showing at Vivace.

That's pretty awesome. That's a first for me. Thank you magic.

It's also good to know the Alfreds will set out into the unknown.

The weather has been quite calming lately.

There's a very steady, cool beeze and it sounds like whispering through the newly bloomed tree leaves.

The following painting is from somewhere in Downtown Portland.

I happened dead in front of her for the first time the other day.

Normally I just admire her from the bus.

I think she's a spectacle worth sharing. I also love the brick building.

Anyway... I must get ready for work now.

My First Art Showing

after many weeks of preparation I am happy to say that I have a handful of my art on display at Vivace, the coffee shop I work at. I'll be putting more up over the upcoming week.

i've never put art on display like this before. It's truly a dream come true and thank magic for that reality.

normally it's more about the meditaional moment that I share via zzzwalking.com.

seeing a sketchbook drawing converted to a computer file...

then converted to a print that is multiple times the size of the original image...

buying them a frame...

giving those moments names...

that's a lot of work, man. but the process was fun and i plan on doing a lot more of it.

Unframed prints will be available via the interweb store soonly.

but hey! If you live in Portland come check it out!

Be free fellow earthlings!

Stuff, Things, and Acrobats

I've been drawing a lot of randomness lately. It's been rainy these last few days and my head is swirling with words and ideas.

To begin with I'm really trying to lock in and focus on producing words for a new book or zine or something. I need to focus on the head thoughts of the last year and make it into a something. More on that when it's a more complete idea. But it's a happening in the making.

Also last night I discovered that with the free program inkscape and a scanner I can make vector images of all my drawings.

It's as easy as clicking a few buttons, man. Which means I can make prints to sell, stickers, and/or pictures to go with stories. All the possibilities!

Also if you haven't been to zzzwalking.com please check it out. There's a total of 6 of us contributing to the site now and it's magical seeing all the happenings.
