Live Art Jam

upload.jpg

Hello Friends!

This is a semi last minute post, I've been working at the day job more than I normally do this week so my routines are a bit shuffled at the moment.

This Saturday I am participating in a live art jam at PDXchnge on Mississippi Avenue from 1-4pm.

I will be creating art live alongside some other artists I will link to below.

Come check it out, hang out, ask anything you wanna know about the art process.

I have a huge inventory of pieces that haven't sold yet that will be available at discounted prices.

Help me clean out the inventory to make room for new stuff.

Also for one day only I will be selling my coffee cup art. A lot of people have been asking for them, but they've literally been the cups I drink from.

Saturday I am doing a limited run of 25 coffee cups for $5 each.

I will also have a limited number of my "character guide" to hand out for those interested.

I hope to see you there.

Shifts

October 1st:

Hung out with my good friend, Jackie Jones. We met in Portland when I first moved here, but she lives in Lynnwood, Washington now. Also present that day were Eric and Ally.

We played corn hole and ate kabobs that Eric made on the grill: steak, onions, peppers, and tomatoes. So good!

And there was Luarelwood pumpkin beer because Eric works at that brewery. That is actually the only pumpkin beer I've found that's not overwhelmingly sweet to myself.

Also there was pumpkin pie and pumpkin rolls! Thanks for the hospitality friends!

October 2:

I helped my friends Darcie and Reed move some stuff into there new apartment and Darci and Steve helped me move my things into my new spot. My new spot is the same spot I lived in 3 or 4 years ago. I'm still trying to determine the exact year.

I do know I was really hungover during the move in and highly suggest if you are reading these words. Never drink liquor that tastes like peppermint. Even if it's offered to you for free. It'll make you feel like a yuck the next day.

Anyway, moving into the house I once in lived in before. Back to NE Portland between MLK and Williams. It feels good to be back in these hoods.

October 3:

It should be noted the leaves are turning yellow and falling down to the ground fast.

I had a couple drinks after work yesterday afternoon with a great friend, Alan Page. After which I bought Palo Santo for purifying/cleansing the energy into moving back in to the Graham House.

I started vacuuming and unpacking at the new spot. Mostly I got my bed set up and moved other things around that I wasn't sure what to do with yet.

October 4:

I just got out of bed about 2pm. That's about an hour ago. I'm eating a breakfast bagel with veggie sausage and got a coffee from Goldrush. This is one of my favorite coffee shops to sneak away, too.

It's been interesting walking the streets I use to in a different head space than before but it also helps me remember the things that were so important to me when I was here.

That's the little bit of what's been happening for me. Smoggie Catt moves back in soon. I need to clean a little more properly / have things more solid before she comes back.

I need to post my Sleepwalking Moment and check in with my bank balance and clean up the new space now.

handful of fools

i walked down towards the Pearl last night. for those not living in Portland, that is a really nice and well moneyed neighborhood in the NW quadrant of town.

Last night was night 3 of protests against Donald Trump. A handful of people decided it was a good idea to take baseball bats to businesses and spray paint on others.

Donald Trump is our president elect. Unless we seriously find a way to not make that be, that is our reality. Busting up buildings is not a way to solve such things.

To the handful of fools, mark my words, if you are not careful, these outbreaks justify martial law. The feds have a lot of power right now. It's a time to be patient and observant, not foolish.

In other news it's really creepy how Donald Trump has head next to no press near him at the moment. Keep your eyes and hearts open, friends.

good morning

hello fellow earthlings...

it is november 10th 2016. donald j trump is the president elect of the united states of america.

as much as i am worried about what all those republicans with power can do at a time like this, i think we all knew intuitively we would have to fight for what we believe even if Hillary was elected.

As interesting as 4 years of bill clinton memes would have been, we don't need such distractions: now we must be more diligent about getting involved and standing up for others; be that student debt, combatting climate change, health care for all, fracking, the north dakota pipeline, all the pipelines, etc etc.

i'm asking you fellow earthlings to not live in fear.

filled with good intent, fueled by fear, we'll all become monsters.

instead, study and learn, organize and stand up, love one another, and remember when we unite under a common causes there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

liberty and justice for ALL

hello. welcome to the rock n' roll show.

hello. i just wrote a long, rambling blog post and it didn't save.

i'm going to do it again. probably a lot less wordy.

take 2:

hello. my friends and i are playing a rock n roll show in 4 days.

my friend, Tim Craft and I started a band called: acorn season.

i first conceptualized this band name in 2010.

that's not important in this moment.

i am very grateful for the magical energies that have been happening and mas grateful for friends with the talents to create tunes for me to sing to.

what started as a song and a half wrote by tim craft and i, from August 23rd to Halloweenish has evolved to a full band and 4ish songs that we will be performing at The Know, Monday, February, 1st, at 8:30pm.

if you live in Portland that is on NE Alberta and 20iissshhh.

the one building near salt n straw and little big burger that doesn't look like the two previous stated establishments.

unfortunately i hear it is to become something of those said establishments in the future.

anyway for now it is a venue and an opportunity to play a rock n roll show.

come hang out, maybe dance with us a moment or so.

acorn season  line up:

tim craft: guitar

cass swan: keys

joel moyer: beats

leona ? : bass

martha: distracticon, etc

me: singing and acting a fool

tick tock

the snow has mostly melted away. there are still slippery patches out there.

i went and saw my friends, Austin and Greg play at the Waypost on N Williams.

i haven't been in that bar in a moment. and the amount of construction in the northeast is brain melting.

either way… cool to be in NE Portland. I need to wander over there more often. [note to self]

I've been reading "The Phantom Tollbooth". my friend, Cody gave me it as a christmas gift.

another friend of mine… Andrea suggested i read it a bit back as well.

it's witty and easy to read… alice in wonderland ish..

my favorite quote thus far:

"i never knew words could so confusing" Milo said.

"only when you use a lot to say a little," answered Tock.

Halloween Art and Music, Thing, Etc

My friends and I are having an art show / music happenings.

i've shared a lot of the arts via social networkings and i'll do more on that later.

i'm very easily distracted and feel like i've been staring at the screen forever

but then i remember i was staring out the window at the sun coming down on the trees,

those shiny yellow leaves still greatly outnumbered by the green

and smelling the fresh autumn air.

i gotta focus. i have to get on a bus and get to my friend's house to watch this debate.

So yes. Musics!

I've started working on this project with my friend Tim Craft called acorn season.

I got a little snippet? is that a word?

anyway a snippet from a song we wrote called "bucket".

i'll ramble on that soonly, also.

there will be other musics too!

music is a special kind of sanity i can't explain at the moment.

singing songs and sharing art on my favorite holiday!

it's going to be fun!

eek! bus!

Rambles / Cimate Change

No one wants to talk about it and those who do often get ridiculed.

I'm no scientist but I am an earthling.

Winter was a 3 week fling in my part of the world. Summer came in full force. She was quick and  hot.

Summer is still here, but I smell Fall. The acorns are falling. The leaves are yellowing.

August is coming. Autumn is coming in August.

What's that mean for October?

That's my favorite month.

There are no longer 4 seasons per year. There are 6 at least.

They say Winter will be crazy for the Pacific Northwest this year.

She thinks it's spring.

Take what you can get, yes.

I'm just noting the climates have already shifted.

It's time to start as a society/planet acknowledging it on a massive scale or we can wait for a great "natural disaster" to wake us up. Either way...

Mother earth will be fine, but we have to start living accordingly. Soon.

It's a head full to think about, but it needs to be talked about.

Anyway.. I'm rambling and barely finished my morning coffee.

Enjoy some pretty pictures.

It rained yesterday. It was good rain. Sometimes you just need the water to wash away the gunk.

June 20, 2015 // mewithoutYou

Last Saturday night I went and saw mewithoutYou play at the Hawthorne Theatre.

I almost didn't get in because my ID is pretty jacked up. I just need to invest in an Oregon ID already.

Anyway they played a handful of new songs from their album Pale Horses that came out on the 16th of this month. I recommend it. It's a very multilayered album.

Lyrically Aaron takes it to a whole new level of i'm not completely sure yet.

Musically the tone has many parts reminiscent of old songs, yet still has a new twist to them as well.

The show was good though. The crowd bugged me out a bit because they couldn't keep a beat for anything, but at least they tried i guess.

Here

I officially sold 4 pieces from my art showing at Vivace.

That's pretty awesome. That's a first for me. Thank you magic.

It's also good to know the Alfreds will set out into the unknown.

The weather has been quite calming lately.

There's a very steady, cool beeze and it sounds like whispering through the newly bloomed tree leaves.

The following painting is from somewhere in Downtown Portland.

I happened dead in front of her for the first time the other day.

Normally I just admire her from the bus.

I think she's a spectacle worth sharing. I also love the brick building.

Anyway... I must get ready for work now.

today I walked around the most beautiful neighborhood in NW Portland. This one block particularly had really tall Japanese Maples and well designed Victorian houses.

It was enough to make my mind wander and remember how to feel small.

There are many great trees in this region. I find more and more respect for these beings with every passing day.

They've seen so much come and go and they continue to grow.

Metaphors. Cliches. Smoke Break.

Brainwaves > Emoticons

Is Waka Flocka actually running for president? what the what is that about?

As if politics aren't a joke already.

So it goes.

Grow up humanity.

Anyway...

trees are magical.

I'm officially distracted.

wander more . stress less.

where do we begin?

my computer is going entirely too slow but i'm going to keep typing.

it catches up eventually; it gives me time to breathe.

the climates have changed. we all know it. i'm just saying it for the sake of narrating.

what's next?

in short or long?

my computer stalled again

i'm going to ramble on

i write a lot in notebooks but it's another thing to ramble to a computer screen

it's an open ended script and hopefully it makes some kind of sense

it's hard to talk in sentences when there are so many parantheses in my neck

living in northwest portland is intense

i appreciate this moment

some words just need to be typed for documentation

bubble.

that's my favorite word

i moved 2900 miles away to find home

climate change

i moved here for rain

it's changed

so what are we going to do?

we got to come together

hyper localize

it doesn't have to be hard but you should get to know your neighbor

we don't need all the distractions

we set a lot of expectation on appointments and forget about the moments that happen every couple seconds

look up dreamers

the world is still turning

we must make time for learning

read a book. go for walks. say hello to one another.

i don't know where this is going.

these words that is.

we got to connect folks.

we have to slow down.

take time to think. take time to wander.

if we don't take time to think we'll drive ourselves further towards insanity

the heats going to make them crazy.

drink water. lots of water.

california is drying up. so is mexico. so is palestine. and so on.

localize. make no room for the big guys.

it's not easy. nah.

i don't even know what else to type.

basically.. make time to think. make time to be.

the world is changing fast.

learn to observe. observe to learn.

i need to exit the internets and read some words.

My First Art Showing

after many weeks of preparation I am happy to say that I have a handful of my art on display at Vivace, the coffee shop I work at. I'll be putting more up over the upcoming week.

i've never put art on display like this before. It's truly a dream come true and thank magic for that reality.

normally it's more about the meditaional moment that I share via zzzwalking.com.

seeing a sketchbook drawing converted to a computer file...

then converted to a print that is multiple times the size of the original image...

buying them a frame...

giving those moments names...

that's a lot of work, man. but the process was fun and i plan on doing a lot more of it.

Unframed prints will be available via the interweb store soonly.

but hey! If you live in Portland come check it out!

  1. The act of capturing a moment in a photograph is a difficult task. Though it is very much worth the trying.
  2. I went to the coast earlier this week with my friend Kelsey and a couple other newly made friends.
  3. My eyes have been ever so itchy. Mostly because of sinuses but also because my contacts have about bit the dust. They are much better today though!
  4. Yesterday was much too warm, Portland. Can we hold off on the intense heat a few more months?
  5. I'm still looking to lock down a new job.
  6. Not working all the time has felt damn good. I've had lots of time to focus on art. Lots of coloring in the happening.

Common Day Occurrences

Today I woke up and followed through with my habitual checking of Craigslist for new job postings, followed by a quick look on Poached Jobs.

Both of which only turned up a handful of selections, but nothing concrete just yet.

I then wandered 6 miles in hopes of finding places to leave resumes. While the job search was not as successful as I had hoped, I did enjoy the walk. I even took a few moments to take some photos.

Nothing too fancy, just common day occurrence stuff.

Enjoy!

Snow Days (Part 2)

The snow is melting away now. Yesterday was very icy. Each step sounded like thunder as I stepped through the layer of ice to the mushy snow below.  Icicles were falling off trees on the walk home from work. Now it's mostly mush outside.

There's been on and off mistiness in the air and the skies are grey! The rainy grey days have finally arrived I think.

Also other head thinking. It was fun sticking my head out the window and feeling the cool air blow through my hair and listening to snow melt off the trees and rooftops.

Also tonight I get to see mewithoutYou and I couldn't ask for more ideal weather! This will be my first time seeing them since moving out west and also the first time since the release of Ten Stories!

Beyond excited! Every moment I see them is much needed and well remembered. I'm sure in a few days when I've had time to mellow I can expand on this excitement.

Right now I'm in super mellow head spot.

I've waited about 5 years to see them live again!!!! Aaaaah!!

Snow Days (Part 1)

I haven't been blogging as much. I've been lost in my head and this winter wonderland.

I can't believe the amount of snow that's fallen. It's absolutely magical.

I haven't seen a fresh snow in 20 years at least. It feels so good.

Feels even better to share this Winter Wonderland feel with someone that i find very enchanting.

I wish I could expand on all these thoughts that go through my head but right now I'm just not able.

I've been writing fragmented words and drawing a lot. Hopefully all of this goes into this new book that has been pondering up in my head since last May and it'll make more sense.

There's a lot of fascinating creatures in the world if only you'll look. I found my forest and I hope we all can. It takes a little time sometimes but eventually sometimes, somethings just work out.

Well anyway...

Coming soon.... pictures of snow monsters!
